The youth assembly

The Youth Assembly is a platform that cultivates a global network of young leaders and change-makers through the exchange, education, and entrepreneurship with the aim to empower the next generation of leaders and provide them with opportunities to connect with like-minded peers, trailblazers, and influencers and develop global competence and critical skills, and transform their vision for a better future through their innovative action.

The Conference

The flagship conference which was held for the first time in 2004 at the UN Headquarters in New York, created an intergenerational space for dialogue among civil society, academia, the private sector, and the youth to tackle the global issues in the 21st century with innovative ideas and solutions. The conference was held twice a year in 2011 and consists of various discussions and activities that discuss issues related to social, economic, and environmental and other issues, and also equip the youth with critical skills that are necessary for today’s global economy.

By taking part in various skill-building workshops the delegates are given an opportunity to connect with key leaders and experts in various other fields and also propose solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges that the world faces.

The Delegates

The Youth Assembly is a platform that brings together the foremost young leaders and changemakers of the world at the heart of global change twice in a year. The Youth Assembly delegates are normally of age 16 to 32, and come from different countries across the globe and have one thing in common that they possess strong leadership potential and also have a keen interest in global issues that the world is facing.

The Speakers

Since 2004, the most notable speakers have been included in the youth assembly that includes  UN leaders and senior-most staff, celebrities, and other luminaries from civil society and the private sector. Past speakers of the youth assembly include former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former UN Youth Envoy Ahmad Alhendawi, incumbent UN Youth Envoy Jayathma Wickramanayake, Presidents of the UN General Assembly, former UN Youth Champion Monique Coleman, American economist Jeffrey Sachs, Indian-American socio-political activist Arun Gandhi, and activists such as Alexandria Villasenor, Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, and Amani Al Khatahtbeh.

Organizers and Partners

The Youth Assembly was created in 2004  by the Friendship Ambassadors Foundation and their aim was to amplify youth engagement and participation in global development.  Friendship Ambassadors Foundation’s expertise is rooted in cultural exchange and thus the Youth Assembly develops collaboration between youth and key stakeholders and also supports the implementation of global commitments which includes the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The sessions of the Youth Assembly are organized in collaboration with the mission and impact-driven organizations and companies that facilitate a holistic approach in developing today’s young aspiring leaders. The youth assembly has worked with many prestigious institutions and organizations, such as the United Nations, World Bank Group, UNESCO, ILO, UN Environment, PepsiCo, Microsoft, the Resolution Project, Thought for Food, Instagram, Virgin Unite, WCS, the Nature Conservancy, the Climate Reality Project, UN SDSN-Youth, Candid (formerly the Foundation Center), BRAC, CARE, Liter of Light, Terracycle, and many more.

How to join the youth assembly

1. First, you have to sign up and then you will become a member of GAIN.

2. Email a GAIN Hub that is in your region with the subject line “Impact Challenge”.

 3. Then you will receive instructions on how to participate in the global impact challenge. Submit the application and wait for the selection process.

 PRIZE for Youth Assembly

  •  During the closing ceremony of the Youth Assembly, the winners will receive their award 
  •  And will also be featured  on our global platforms
  • Will receive mentorship on social entrepreneurship
  • And also earn the opportunity to pitch their ideas to experts in the field, and receive funding for the implementation of their projects
  • All finalists will receive feedback to further develop and improvise  their social impact project proposals and work on them
