Applications are open for the Ilia Calderón Scholarship to Attend the One Young World Summit 2023. Following the success of the Ilia Calderón Scholarship in 2021 and 2022, One Young World has once again teamed up with the Jang-Calderón Family Foundation to support young Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders between the ages of 18 and 30 who are leading innovative and impactful initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The “Ilia Calderón” scholarship will select and fund the participation of two Afro-descendant or Indigenous leaders who will be able to travel to the United Kingdom and attend the One Young World Summit 2023 in Belfast, United Kingdom.
Scholarship
The scholarship provides:
- Entrance to the One Young World 2023 summit in Belfast.
- Accommodation in private rooms from October 2 to 5, 2023;
- International round-trip transport to Belfast (economy class);
- Domestic transportation to the airport for the international flight (economy class);
- Visa fees, if applicable;
- Public transport between accommodation and the Summit venue in Belfast;
- Meals during the days of the event (breakfast, lunch and dinner);
- Translation from English to Spanish in the plenary sessions, welcome ceremony and closing.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be between 18 – 30 years old at the time of the One Young World Summit taking place in Belfast October 2-5, 2023.
- Eligible nationalities: Colombia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Brazil.
Evaluation Criteria
Candidates will also be evaluated for the following:
- Commitment and potential benefit for the communities or territories to which it belongs.
- Relevance of the initiatives you lead or have participated in.
- Demonstrate leadership skills.
- Address local and/or global problems in their community or territory.
- Have a track record of generating impactful and innovative ideas.
- Motivation to participate in One Young World.
