Shenzhen University (SZU) China Scholarship 2026 (Fully Funded)

Shenzhen University (SZU) invites applications for its Doctoral Program for International Students for the September 2025 intake. This prestigious program offers international students the opportunity to pursue advanced research in a wide range of fields, including Science, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Medicine, and Arts, under the guidance of world-class faculty.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the SZU Doctoral Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid foreign passport, good physical and mental health, and be willing to abide by Chinese laws and university regulations.
  2. Hold a Master’s degree or above and be under the age of 40. Applicants who have not yet graduated can submit an expected graduation certificate during application but must provide the official diploma before enrollment.
  3. Meet the language proficiency requirements :
    • Programs taught in Chinese :
      • HSK4 (minimum score of 180) for Science and Engineering.
      • HSK5 (minimum score of 180) for Liberal Arts, Medicine, and Arts.
    • Programs taught in English: Submit an English proficiency certification.
    • Native speakers of Chinese or English may be exempt from these requirements after recognition by SZU.

Required Application Materials

Prepare the following documents before applying:

  1. Master’s Degree Certificate and Diploma (or pre-graduation certificate if not yet graduated).
  2. Transcripts of all courses during the postgraduate period.
  3. Two Letters of Recommendation (signed by professors or associate professors in Chinese or English).
  4. Self-Statement (approximately 1,500 words in English or Chinese, detailing intended major, supervisor, academic achievements, etc.).
  5. Passport Copy (information page).
  6. Passport Photo.
  7. Letter of Recommendation from a potential supervisor.
  8. Language Proficiency Certificate (HSK or English certification as applicable).
  9. Resume (from primary school to present).
  10. Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
  11. Non-criminal Record Report (original and Chinese translation).
  12. Scholarship application form (if applicable).

Note: Documents not in Chinese or English must be translated and notarized. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Admission Process

After the application deadline, SZU will review all submitted documents and conduct interviews (long-distance or face-to-face) if necessary.

Pre-admission results will be sent via email in June 2025, and final admission results can be checked through the online application system.

Digital copies of admission materials will be emailed to successful applicants in July 2025.

Admitted students must apply for an X1 visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate and convert it into a Residence Permit within 30 days of entering China.

On-site registration is mandatory on the date specified in the admission notice.

Scholarship Opportunities

SZU offers several scholarships to support international doctoral students:

  1. Guangdong Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship: 30,000 CNY/year.
  2. Shenzhen Universiade Scholarship: 40,000 CNY/year.
  3. Liyuan International Scholarship :
    • First Class: Tuition waiver + 6,000 CNY/month living allowance.
    • Second Class: Tuition waiver + 5,000 CNY/month living allowance.
    • Third Class: Tuition waiver + 4,000 CNY/month living allowance.
  4. Supervisors provide an annual allowance of at least 12,000 CNY for scientific research or academic exchanges.

Note: Scholarships are available for the first extended year of study but not beyond the second extension.

Steps to Apply

Contact a potential supervisor from the list of potential supervisors and obtain a Letter of Recommendation (template available in the brochure).

Register online via the SZU International Student Portal: SZU Online Application System.

Log in, complete your personal and visa information, upload the required documents, and submit the payment voucher for the application fee.
